Why We Need to Treat the Site Plan Differently!

Site Plan is More than Technical Information Related to a Property or a Legal Survey, It is "Part & Parcel" of the Architectural Design Process and Must Be Considered As Such...

For architects, site plan is a document that has a definitive meaning. It is a sheet that shows a survey plan, orientation, site boundaries, dimensions/orientation of property lines, angles at intersections, rights-of-way & easements, zoning setback lines and other regulatory conditions. It also includes a benchmark with actual (geodetic) elevation, and assumed elevation, borehole locations and so on.

However, there is a missing element here. Site plan must have content. It can't just describe the compliance to zoning requirements, or gedetical benchmarking,or locations of bore holes. Site plan must surpass that into becoming integral part of the architectural design process.in order to do that, we need to consider site plan as an architect's task in collaboration with the planner; as part of the struggle to find that inspiring concept (but not necessairly the "right solution").

The architectural concept is the heart and soul of the architectural project. Hence, it should start at the site planning phase. We need to think differently about site planning.

We need to think from the perspective of harmony of the site plan to the architectural concept (or contrast but we need a theme of some sort….) and to broaden the boundaries of site to the boundaries of our architecture's urban influence, so that our urban centres, towns, and cities would have presence, character, and a community feel of belonging. To learn about how we can help in doing this and more in our Consultancy service.
